I remember when I had my first baby, I was terrified to say the least. Yes I am a Christian, yes I had dedicated her to God, Yes I pray hard, but there was something i couldn’t place. I was scared for her. I could not be away from her for five minutes without panicking. It was like something terrible could happen to her once I wasn’t there.
My attitude affected me because I wasn’t able to do anything else apart from ‘take care of my baby.’ Chai I suffered.
To say my marriage was affected would be an understatement. My daughter too couldn’t be with so many people because I did not allow strangers carry her.
I remember the first time she had a sleep over at her grandma’s, so my hubby and I could have the weekend to ourselves. I called every hour and still didn’t sleep all night I ended making my husband miserable. (It was like the baby was with us even when she was at her grandma’s). Early in the morning, I went to pick up my baby.
For some strange reason, that was when it dawned on me that I had to get rid of this fear and accept help from my family and loved ones.
As a woman, I had always said my priority was in this order God, my husband and then the kids. It was only in my words. My marriage was suffering from lack of attention. I couldn’t leave my baby to attend to my husband for so long. Maybe I felt she was still so little and needed all the attention she could get.
I decided to come clean with my husband I told him my fears and how I thought no one could take care of my child like me.
His reply soothed me greatly. I can’t forget what he said in a hurry.
“Baby I don’t know what it is you are scared of but I had a conversation with God when this child was born and I know without a doubt that this child cannot be harmed; whether she is in the north, south, east or west she is always under God’s protection so forget it.”
He said it with so much conviction and peace I knew I had to work on myself. I was the problem.
I got on my knees and had a talk with God. I told him my fears and asked that He helped me. God truly does answer prayers.
He made me understand that He loves my kids more than I would. They are His, He created them, He knows them, He knows their end from the beginning, He understands them more than I will ever do and he sees their heart, so who can take care of them better than Him?
Once I got that wisdom it was like light in heavy darkness, I suddenly felt foolish. Now I ask him daily to protect my children and I trust him to do that.
I have two kids and whenever I am overwhelmed, lost or in doubt about what to do I go to God straight.
We live in a fast world now with technology constantly upgrading and moral decadence on the rise, as humans we are limited but God is unlimited. Where we cannot go, He can go, what we cannot see He can see, what we do not know He knows.
Don’t allow the devil steal your peace be rest assured that those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalms 91:1 NLT
Have you given your kids to God?
