I grew up to hear my grandmother say in her Oyo dialect, O l’ettiqutte. This was her usual reaction whenever she felt miffed by any wrongdoing from my sister and I. She said it so much that we thought the word ‘etiquette’ must be a grand old word used by grandmothers or old people. But growing up I’ve come to realize that Etiquette speaks of a fine sense of decorum. The conduct or procedure required by good breeding or prescribed by authority to be observed in social or official life. Google defines it as a customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group. says if you practice proper etiquette, you are less likely to offend or annoy people and you may even charm them. Can you imagine how much good that does for your child? You must have observed that people naturally take a liking to children that are cultured and practice good etiquette. This tells us that practicing good etiquette will most likely attract favour and goodwill to your child. Teaching your child etiquette will therefore give them a head start in life.

Etiquette does not start and end with belonging to a privileged social strata neither is it a Western concept. Etiquette involves doing things in such a manner to avoid causing discomfort to others. When you treat people well, they not only feel good about themselves they think well of you. Our world will be a much better place to live in if every child should grow up with good etiquette.

We are social beings and so it is important that we comport ourselves well.

There are etiquette rules for different occasions and when you practice good etiquette you leave a fragrance behind. Teach your children that.

Etiquette makes you a cultured individual who leaves his mark wherever he goes.

Etiquette teaches you the way to talk, walk and most importantly behave in the society.

Etiquette is essential for an everlasting first impression. The way you interact with your superiors, parents, fellow workers, friends speak a lot about your personality and up- bringing.

Etiquette enables individuals earn respect and appreciation in the society. No one would feel like talking to a person who does not know how to speak or behave in the society. Etiquette inculcates a feeling of trust and loyalty in the individuals. One becomes more responsible and mature. Etiquette helps individuals to value relationships.

We are living at such a time that people are increasingly losing their manners and rudeness has reached its peak. Children talk to elders anyhow and we think it is okay. It is not okay. Good etiquette once learnt would likely be a part of your children for life.

A lot of the issues that are handled in adult life would probably not have occurred if they had been nipped in the bud and good manners taught. Your son doesn’t know how to share toys with other children in class, correct him now.

There are business, bathroom, table wedding telephone ,social, meeting etiquette and so on. In my next article I will be discussing some types of etiquette which I believe are basic and important for your child to acquire.

I hope you will learn a thing or two from it.

This is my first post in 2017 so I’m super excited!!!!!!

The big question is: How do you intend to live this year??

If you ask me, my answer would be to live 2017 in STYLE!!

So, what exactly does STYLE stand for?

SERVICE: This year, endeavor to spend some good time serving others! Provide help to someone in need of it that can’t afford it. There’s always this fulfillment that comes with service. Volunteer to a worthy cause. Even when you don’t have the time, let your resources do the service. Year 2017 provides you with 365 opportunities to be of help to somebody.. anybody! Don’t take it for granted.

TIME PLAN: It’s very important that this new year, we learn to manage and plan our time properly. We have about 8736 hours left in the year! You really don’t want to waste your time on things that are not productive. This year, decide to take a break from things that don’t add to you. I personally intend to take a break from Social Media for a while. I don’t know how it’s going to happen, lol but I trust God to see me through it.

Let’s set goals and targets (you can choose to reward yourself when you meet these targets).

Don’t just go into the year without having any plan because, before you know it, 2017 will be over and you really don’t want to end the year feeling like you didn’t accomplish anything because “you didn’t have the time to accomplish”.

YEARNING & YIELDING TO GOD: Yes! Though this point comes third, it’s importance can NEVER be over emphasized. For me, my number one goal this year is to Yearn and Yield to God like I have never done before.

Thing is you’re never disadvantaged with God. It’s always a majority with Him. Choose to be open to and with God this year. Learn to let Go and let God. Learn to yield to His will as you daily Yearn for Him!

LOVE & LEARN: I am of the opinion that at the core of Life is love. We can’t live without love (Especially when you realize that God Himself is love!).

In 2017, decide to show love like never before! Show love to those that are mean to you, show love to those that necessarily don’t deserve it. Let’s stop the hate and build up more love! Trust me, with love this world will be a better place. We must also be open to learn new things this year. Oops! you also have to be open to un learn the bad stuff too! Lol. You know what they say, you’re never to old to learn! The amazing thing about learning is that a 2 years old kid can teach you something your 25 years old mind couldn’t even think of! Amazing right?

So this year, learn something new! Take online courses if you can in things you’re passionate about. It’s a great step in the right direction.

Last but not the least!

EXCELLENCE: Decide today to live 2017 in Excellence! Whatever you do, put your best in it. Don’t do mediocre, cos that ain’t the quality of stuff you’re made off! You’re made of God material!! And everything God does is perfect! (Even if it isn’t, our minds won’t be able to decipher it’s imperfection. Yes! God’s awesome like that! Haha). So when you cook, cook with excellence, when you speak, do it with excellence cos that’s what beautified ladies do!

There you have it!! STYLE!

I’m sure you’ll agree with me that 2017 must be lived in STYLE!

However, when the chips are down and we get depressed or have experiences that are not so pleasant, let’s draw confidently to the throne  of grace so we may receive mercy and grace to help us through our times of need.

Remain Beautiful.

About a week ago, I was at a church programme with some colleagues most of whom were guys. A lady walked towards the area where we were seated, and immediately she passed, most of my colleagues had this awful look on. I wondered what made them look at her with such disgust so I tapped the guy closest to me in search of answers. He replied:

She is not fine at all mehn! And she is walking with so much pride as if she is beautiful.

I casually laughed his comment off but deep down there were lots of questions running through my mind:

1: What was their judgement of the lady beauty based on?

2: What exactly do we refer to as beautiful?

3: What is on this lady’s inside that makes her walk with so much grace even though she most likely knew that many guys wouldn’t consider her their kind of beautiful just like my colleagues didn’t.

4: Is beauty really in the eyes of the beholder or the beholdee??

Well, the truth is this,

Beauty is much more than our outward appearances! (I’m sure we have heard that several times already, Lol).

With the landmark set on what a beautiful girl should look like on Instagram, Snapchat and several other Social media platforms, it’s difficult to find people who see true beauty for what it really is.

My colleagues were apparently just concerned about the lady’s physical appearance. They were ignorant of the fact that beauty is much more than what the physical eyes can see, at least that is what 1Peter 3:4-6 tells us.

The problem with many young ladies in our generation is that we tend to seek validation from people especially on whether we look beautiful or not. Many even begin to spend above their earnings to acquire things that will make them look cool for the ‘Gram (Queen Slayers).

Some even go as far as doing plastic surgeries not as a corrective measure for some defect that affects their health but to make their body look more “beautiful” to its beholder.

Beauty is not in the eyes of the beholder!

At least that’s not where it starts from.

Beauty starts from within…

When you begin to feel and see yourself as beautiful, it doesn’t matter what any other person thinks, you’d carry yourself with so much grace and ambience that will make people with a shallow perspective of what beauty means begin to wonder what it is you carry that makes you so proud (just like my colleagues, lol.)

The lady at the programme that day probably knew who she truly is on her inside. She knew she was much more than what her physical appearance looks like.

She probably understood that even though she didn’t have the figure eight and “on fleek” body every random guy will desire, she was beautiful to God!

She understood that she was made in Christ’s image and as such she was perfectly beautiful.

We must understand that our beauty isn’t based on what man thinks of us.

It is about what God says we are; and the bible tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Once we begin to feel beautiful on our inside, it begins to reflect on our outside and hence, it’ll become visible to as many that behold us.

Beauty is not what people see when they look at your physical attributes…

True beauty is how and what you feel on your inside about who you are!

If you ask me, I will say true beauty isn’t in the eyes on the beholder…

It is in the mind of the Beholdee!

P.S Just in case you are wondering what Beholdee means; it refers to the carrier of a beautified personality ***Winks***

Who doesn’t want to be beautiful? Not sure I’d find anyone. Most of us spend so much money buying powder, foundations, lipsticks and other fashion items just  to make sure we slay, but how many of us pay attention to our minds?

Not so many people. Well today, I’m going to give us three sure fire ways of making sure our mind is as pretty as our face. Ready?

A Beautiful Mind Can Only be Built in Christ!

Only Jesus Christ can help us build a mind of beauty. He is the definition of beauty inside-out hence it’s only wisdom to learn how to build a beautiful mind from Beauty, Himself.

Christ helps us renew our minds, making it conform to His word thereby leading us to living a transformed life. (Romans12:2)

If you desire to have a mind that radiates beauty even to your outer man, then there are no two ways to it. You need Christ! Only Him can aid a beautified mind build-up!

You need to have a WORKing WALK with Him. And He’ll help you in your “Beauty- Mind building” Course. *winks*

This is another important factor to a Beautiful mind build- up.

You ALWAYS have to CONSCIOUSLY say no to negativity!

It’s has to be positive vibes only all the time! We must be mindful of the kind of things that enter our minds through what we see, hear and speak. We must guard the doorways to our minds at all times, filtering out every negativity and giving room to only positivity.

We must consciously filter out negative songs, ideas, concepts as they do not help in the build up of a beautiful mind. I say consciously because there will be times you are not into all thee positive talk but you must not let it get to you.

Yes! Just as we tend to invest so much on the things we wear and use to accessorize our body, it is imperative that we also invest in our minds.

I’m sure you’re wondering how to do this. Well, one way to is by investing in books! Good books! Books that edify. The more you read, the more enlightened you are.. The more enlightened you are, the more beautiful your mind becomes.

One of my favourite quotes goes thus:

What distinguishes Man A from Man B asides Grace is information

You cannot afford to be ignorant of some certain things as a lady. Books are carriers of information. Good books are carriers of good information that can help build up a beautiful mind.

I’ll stop here for this post but feel free to suggest other ways by which we can build up a beautified mind in the comment section,
